This sequel to the 2002 Danny Boyle hit was directed by relative newcomer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (who is from Spain or Portugal, I think. I get those two confused sometimes). It is not as fast-paced as its predecessor but just as suspenseful. This time around, the setting is 28 weeks after the initial infection (market and advertising analysts thought this would be a better title than 196 Days Later, and I tend to agree).
London is slowly being repopulated but there are still evidently some nasties out there just waiting to bludgeon any passing (or fleeing) Londoner with bricks and tear out their insides all hyena-style. We follow the path of a brother and sister searching for their father who in turn went out to find their mother (who was left behind during the original outbreak). Potential viral immunity and the price of marital fidelity are underlying cornerstones of this movie. The tunnel scene alone is enough to make you buy stock in Depends undergarments.
